SDPL Urban Infrastructure Project (Nagpur City)

Project Milestone

Engineering Brief

Project Overview

The SDPL Project, located in the heart of Nagpur City, involves deep excavation in exceptionally hard rock strata. Given its central urban location, the project demands a sophisticated approach to rock fragmentation that balances speed with absolute structural safety for the surrounding neighborhood.

The Challenge: Urban Density & Hard Rock

Excavating hard rock in a city environment like Nagpur presents two major hurdles:

  1. Vibration Sensitivity: Neighboring buildings and underground utilities are highly susceptible to seismic energy.
  2. Zero-Tolerance for Fly Rock: In a city, even a minor fragment of stray rock can lead to safety hazards or property damage.

The Rocktech Methodology

1. Advanced Systematic Blast Design

Rocktech has deployed a "Cautious Controlled Blasting" strategy. Unlike conventional methods, our design utilizes Hole-to-Hole Delay Sequencing. By ensuring that each hole fires at a millisecond interval from the next, we prevent the "cumulative shockwave" effect, thereby:

  • Significantly reducing Peak Particle Velocity (PPV).
  • Achieving superior rock fragmentation for easier mechanical removal.

2. World-Class Vibration Monitoring

To guarantee compliance with statutory safety limits, we utilize the Micromate Vibration Monitoring Instrument (Instantel, Canada).

  • Precision Recording: This industry-leading technology provides real-time, high-accuracy data for every blast.
  • Data Integrity: Every blast is recorded and documented, ensuring transparent safety audits and peace of mind for stakeholders.

3. Superior Muffling Systems

To eliminate the risk of fly rock and suppress noise (air overpressure), all blast sites are covered with Heavy-Duty Blasting Pads. This muffling system acts as a physical shield, ensuring that the energy is directed entirely into the rock and not into the atmosphere.
